Captain Kidd’s is a South Bay institution for fresh seafood. Part of the establishment is a fresh seafood market where they have locally caught fish and fish that is imported from other parts of the world. The other side is their casual restaurant designed much like an east coast fish shack.
In addition to their numerous craft beers on tap, Captain Kidd’s now offers several popular cocktails. Knowing their counter set up, I wondered where they were going to place the bar.
After paying them a visit, I observed three new taps: Mojito, Moscow Mule and Margarita. Since I wasn’t eating Mexican food that evening, I selected the Mojito and the Moscow Mule.
The person that accepted my order also provided my drinks. It was nice that the drink was premixed which meant that I didn’t have to wait for a bartender to prepare it. As a result, I was able to take a seat with my drinks while I waited for my food to be prepared.
I grabbed a seat and waited for my number to be called. I took a sip of the Mojito and found it to be ice cold, tasty and fairly strong. It was definitely unlike many of the watered down drinks I’m using to receiving. The Moscow Mule was even more to my liking as the ginger beer didn’t overwhelm the drink.
Seabass is caught locally and I thought it would be a good fish to order. I selected coleslaw and hush puppies as my sides. The seafood skewers also caught my eye, but since I was dining alone, I decided upon a single skewer a la carte.
The seabass was expertly seasoned and grilled. The fish had nice grill marks on the outside and was extremely moist and flakey on the inside. Despite being a fish with a firm texture, I was able to easily pick up bite sized pieces with my fork because it was so flakey.
The seafood skewers had pieces of cod, shrimp and scallops. I savored each bite of the skewers because they were also extremely fresh and prepared to perfection.
The food at Captain Kidd’s is consistently fresh and prepared well. The items are affordably priced which is quite unusual for the prime Redondo Beach location. It’s a great place to enjoy a sunset with a cocktail and leave your troubles behind.
