In 2006, Ford’s Filling Station and Beacon started a revolution in Culver City’s dining scene. Two years later, Akasha Richmond opened AKASHA and Sang Yoon opened Father’s Office. Both were met with huge crowds and added Culver City as a dining destination. More recently, in 2016, Platform introduced boutique shopping with eclectic eateries.
AKASHA’s menu features California and New American cuisine created with cultural influences taken from Chef Richmond’s many travels around the world. After the pandemic hit, Richmond introduced AKASHA At Home, a food delivery and pick up service with an assortment of dishes designed for reheating and enjoying at home.
This Hannukah, AKASHA moves its popular Vodka and Latke’s menu for to-go customers. Items include matzo ball soup, beef brisket, chicken or vegetable tagine, cauliflower couscous, latke, kugel, and green beans with carrots. They also featured Hannukah-themed cocktails to-go.
Everything was well packed and labeled. Included was a sheet with reheating instructions. While we waited for the brisket to heat, we tried the pletzl bread with the chopped liver. The pletzl bread is best described as an “everything Jewish focaccia”; a fluffy version of an everything bagel. The chopped liver tasted like it was just made.
The Light The Menorah cocktail was premixed and bottled. It included a small container of lavender sugar to line the rim. Lavender blue lemonade gave the vodka a festive feel. It was a fun way to begin the meal.
For our dinner, we enjoyed the beef brisket. They sourced it from Creekstone Farms, a supplier of prime Angus beef. The beef was velvety soft and included a caramelized onion gravy The salad was an unexpected delight with mixed greens, arugula, goat cheese, dried apples, and candied pecans. A small container of balsamic vinegar salad dressing was also included in the package.
AKASHA’s Hannukah menu is available until Dec 17. Items may be ordered for curbside pickup, takeout, or delivery.
Sat, Dec 12 and Sun, Dec 13 from 10:30 to 4:30, AKASHA will host a holiday pop up sale on their front patio. Attendees will be rewarded with wine deals, food gifts, Akasha’s jam, and chutney as well as latkes to go.
