I was recently in West LA and decided to check up on a creamery that I visited a few years ago. Named Atticus Creamery & Pies, the owner named it after the fictional character Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird.
While they don’t promote themselves as such, Atticus is an artisan bakery and creamery. They create their crust by hand and slowly assemble their pies by hand using natural ingredients. Unlike traditional pies that only have a crust and a filling, Atticus makes unique layered pies. They begin with their hand-rolled crust, then add filling such as mousse or custard. It is then topped with a dollop of housemade whipped cream.
In addition to traditional flavors like banana coconut cream, they offer unique flavors such as earl grey, strawberry pistachio, and triple berry cheesecake. Atticus even takes the extra measure to make their own housemade caramel for their salted caramel pie. Like their other pies, the salted caramel pie is also 100% natural.
Gourmet ice cream and sorbet is also made in house and they have approximately 15 different flavors available. Don’t expect to find chocolate, vanilla or strawberry here. Atticus creates unique flavors such as lemon lavender and Nutella Ferrero Rocher. Small samples are available free of charge.
The cream cheese filling was not dense and I really enjoyed the triple berry preserve that was drizzled on top. The crust is shaped like a tart and dense enough to hold a moist filling without falling apart. My partner’s Strawberry Sorbet was full of flavor and was more like ice cream in texture versus a desert.
Because my daughter knew where I was going, she asked if I could bring home something for her. I purchased Oreo, Nutella, Strawberry Pistachio and Key Lime mini pies so that my wife could enjoy them as well. My daughter and her friend quickly got to the Oreo and the Nutella and gave it a thumbs up.
Atticus Creamery is the perfect place to visit after lunch or when you want to share a delicious experience with a friend.
