I’m a long-time LA Rams football fan, and not having been to a game at SoFi; I purchased tickets to tour SoFi Stadium. The tour ended at lunchtime, and after searching for restaurants near SoFi, I discovered Blessed Tropical Jamaican Restaurant, directly across the street in a corner strip mall located at Prarie Ave and Arbor Vitae St in Inglewood.
During the pandemic, Blessed Tropical Jamaican pivoted as many other restaurants did. While their cozy dining area is now open, most customers opt for takeout. They used to have a menu on the wall with the prices. With the cost of food rapidly rising, the menu is handwritten on a whiteboard without prices.
During my second visit there, I noticed how everyone interacted with each other, asking for opinions and suggestions. The popular combinations were the Jerk Chicken ($15.40) and the Oxtails. A few people in line recommended the Curry Goat ($19.80). Includes are three sides, such as plantains, rice and peas, and cabbage.
The plantains were sweet and not greasy, but the overwhelming choice was their Jerk Chicken, moist with tasty seasonings. The oxtails were incredibly tender; the brown gravy was delicious; I poured the remaining over the rice. Their meat patties are like empanada filled with spiced beef or chicken ($2.50).
Portions are incredibly generous, and most people should be satisfied with their small combinations. Even if you dine inside, you’ll receive your meal in a to-go container. Both of us had left-overs to enjoy later.
