Did you know Brazil is the world’s fifth largest country by population and geographical area? Because of that fact, I’m surprised that LA doesn’t have more Brazilian restaurants. Brazil Plate House recently opened in Torrance and I paid them a visit.
It was no surprise that the structure was previously home to Wienerschnitzel. The business owner took full advantage of the property by painting the entire building with the national colors of Brazil. Going east or west on Torrance Blvd, you can see their sign a block away because it is at billboard height.
I ordered a coxinha and was surprised that it was a single coxinha. After receiving this, I noticed that they have another listing for coxinha with a quantity of three and they were smaller in size. The one that we ordered had chicken and cheese inside.
Pastel is a common snack found on the streets of Brazil. The exterior was light and fluffy and the insides were filled with seasoned ground beef. At the time I ate it, I wished that I could accompany it with a cold Brahma beer.
Picanha steak is one of the most popular dishes in Brazil. Brazilians favor using sirloin cap which is not something you typically see in US supermarkets. The steak was perfectly grilled and full of flavor. The rice was mixed with minced onion and garlic and was extremely fluffy. I topped the black beans with the fried cassava flour.
While it has a Brazilian name of Espetinho De Camarao Com Bacon, I’m not sure whether the Shrimp & Bacon Skewers is an actual Brazilian dish. The shrimp was perfectly grilled and it was also paired with fries, black beans and rice.
While the combination comes with a free soda, I opted to try one of their fruit juice offerings. I’m glad I did because the pineapple with mint drink is incredibly delicious and refreshing. For me, it was like drinking a mojito without the rum.
On a return trip, I tried their grilled tilapia plate. A nice sized tilapia filet arrived with black beans and rice. It is a good option for pescatorians, but I happen to think that their picanha steak and the shrimp & bacon skewers were more to my liking.
The hot sandwiches on their menu caught my eye. When I return, I’ll have to order the X-Tudo Tri Tip sandwich. It includes tomato, mayonnaise, lettuce, mozzarella cheese, ham, fried egg and bacon on french bread.

Hi Bryan,
Yes, the “X-Tudo Tri Tip” sandwich sounds wonderful!! That is what I would order. Let me know how it is if you get one. Love the green and white Brazil colors on the restaurant.
