Friday, June 25 is National Food Truck Day. Due to the pandemic, the holiday this year will have a special significance for the food trucks still in operation. As a symbolic day for the industry to celebrate its resiliency and to let the world know they are back, join Roaming Hunger, a national food truck promotion company, in saying “Thank you” to this small army of entrepreneurs.
Roaming Hunger is inviting everyone to support and eat from their favorite food truck the week of June 20 through June 27, with a special emphasis on Friday, June 25th, which is National Food Truck Day.
Some of LA’s original food trucks include Kogi, Komodo, India Jones, Lomo Arigato, and Cool Haus. I took an interest in them sometime around 2011 and began blogging about them a year later. Some food trucks such as Mariscos Jalisco, Slummin Gourmet, and Smhokin Pot leveraged their food truck success and opened a brick and mortar.
Here are some of the food trucks I still follow and enjoy!
Stop Bye Cafe
Stop Bye Cafe delivers Indonesian-fusion cuisine to the streets of LA. Chef Justin Tulus introduced customers to his signature 18 Spice Chicken and Ren-dang Stew. Some of his latest dishes include Kemangi Shrimp Garlic Noodles and Spice Island Grilled Chicken. Usual stops include the Westside, South Bay, and downtown LA.
Tokyo Style
Tokyo Style delivers innovative takes on Japanese comfort food. Beef and Chicken bowls include yuzu citrus coleslaw, kimchi, and cilantro to nicely elevate this beyond the standard offering. Two of my favorites include the grilled salmon with housemade ponzu and yuzu sauces as well as their refreshing lychee lemonade.
Triple Threat
The Triple Threat Truck is LA’s only food truck featuring food from Puerto Rico. An example of this is their Tripleta with marinated chicken topped with shoestring fries, lettuce, and their signature sauce. Another tasty sandwich is their Pan Con Leche with mojo marinated pulled pork. I happen to favor their signature Mofongo with green plantains topped with pork pernil. This dish is beautifully presented.
My Delight
My Delight Cupcakery creates handcrafted, edible works of art made from the highest quality ingredients. The Maple Bacon and Southern Red Velvet cupcakes are two of my favorites. They were a previous winner of LA’s best cupcake and were so successful they expanded their food truck business to a brick and mortar in Ontario.
