Fried Chicken continues to remain the rage in LA. Waiting in line at Howlin’ Ray’s still takes up to 2 hours. There are other variants: Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, Spanish and the most common, Southern fried chicken. Honey’s Kettle Fried Chicken isn’t a new restaurant. It has been listed on quite a few top fried chicken places in LA. I purchased a Groupon for that restaurant and so it quickly made it to the top of my list of places to visit.
Since I dined alone, I ordered the Premium Kettle Chicken sandwich and an Ice Shaker Lemonade. Because the chicken is fried to order, my food was ready in about 15 minutes. Because my Groupon was for $30, I also ordered 8 pieces of fried chicken to go.
A large chicken breast was bursting out of my sandwich. It was topped with chopped lettuce with a tangy sauce. The exterior of the chicken was crunchy and was was both sweet and salty. The inside was moist, juicy and tender. It was obvious that they source their chicken from a premium supplier.
The kettle fries were of the thicker variety, but not quite steak fries. They were not greasy and I thought they were nicely seasoned. The lemonade was ice cold and wasn’t overly sweet.
Other items on the menu include: fish and chips, fried catfish and housemade biscuits. For dessert, they feature fresh housemade pies.
I brought the box of chicken home and my wife grabbed a piece with the intent of only taking a bite. She placed the chicken back in the box and returned to take another bite. She said, “it’s addicting”.
I’d have to agree.
