United Airlines recently executed a soft launch of their new Polaris Lounge in Terminal 7 at LAX. My wife received an offer from United Mileage Plus for their grand opening and purchased two tickets so that I could attend. I was very happy to receive this opportunity.
United’s International Business and First Class customers are eligible to visit the Polaris Lounge. Conversely, the United Club Lounge is for United’s Premier customers taking domestic flights. As part of the Terminal 7 renovation process, the United Club lounge was relocated near gate 71 in Terminal 7.
Despite the requirement to go through airport security, the process didn’t take much time. We quickly made our way to United gate 73 and found the entrance to the Polaris Lounge on the west side of the terminal. There, we were warmly greeted and directed to the private elevator.
The elevator opened to the bar area. Nearby were plush United “Signature Seats” that are oversized for comfort, include privacy walls and a multitude of outlets. 21st-century phone booths (no coin-operated payphone) allowed travelers to conducts calls in complete privacy. Rest and Rejuvinate
An extension of the lounge includes luxurious shower suites, featuring rainfall showerheads and Soho House & Co’s Cowshed Spa products. Private daybeds are outfitted with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding and include a waterfall sound machine to aid your relaxation.
Experiencing the food
The Polaris Lounge accommodates travelers that have both short and long waiting periods between flights. Food is creatively prepared and pleasant to the eye. Travelers may also enjoy a full dining room experience with an upscale meal prepared to order. The bar is a draw because they have a number of upper
For travelers on the go, there is quite a bit of food already prepared. Beverages such as coffee, fresh juices, bottled water, and canned soft drinks are also available. Even people needing to satisfy their sweet tooth will be pleasantly surprised with what is available.
We placed our name on the waiting list for the dining room. The SLH Chardonnay and Duckhorn Pinot Noir wines we selected were both well balanced and had nice finishes. The Burrata Tower included heirloom tomatoes, sliced avocado, and was topped with micro greens. The fish and chips were ok. Their signature Polaris Burger, however, is worth trying. The burger was juicy and it included lettuce, tomatoes, pickled onions, and a fried egg on a brioche bun.
Unless I win the Lotto, I don’t see the United Polaris lounge in my future. I’m happy that I had the opportunity to see what improvements they made over their Club Lounge.
