Cupcakery isn’t a word in the dictionary. I’m not sure who first coined it, but the first time I saw the word, it was on the front of a food truck – My Delight Cupcakery. I was recently invited to see their brick and mortar operation in Ontario.
What has always impressed me about My Delight Cupcakery is the fact that they create beautiful works of art in the form of delicious cupcakes. It is obvious that the cupcakes are not hastily assembled and it reminded me how an executive chef plates a meal so that it arrives to your table like it belongs in a museum.
What I learned that day was that My Delight Cupcakery uses premium ingredients such as imported chocolate, vanilla and certified non-GMO flour. They also use fruit sourced through local organic farms whenever possible.
I picked up their four cupcake sampler: Red Velvet S’more, Mixed Berry Parfait, Chocolate Glazed Donut and the Southern Red Velvet. Biting into each cupcake, my taste buds quickly alerted me that these are gourmet cupcakes. The cupcake itself is tasty and moist, the frosting is rich and the toppings aren’t an afterthought.
The Mixed Berry Parfait was filled with a berry jam and topped with ripe berries. That ended up being my favorite. My daughter dove into the Red Velvet S’more. She verified that this was the real deal and even the cake portion tasted like a s’more. The cupcake was even filled with a gooey marshmallow center. The Southern Red Velvet was topped with a Madagascar vanilla cream cheese frosting and topped with a dark chocolate heart.
Last, but not least was the Glazed Donut. This was a chocolate cupcake with sprinkles topped with a mini chocolate donut. The presentation brought me back to my younger days and it was quite fun thinking about eating both a donut and a cupcake in one sitting.
My Delight is located in the Mountain Village Shopping Center in Ontario. This is located just south of the 10 freeway on Mountain Ave. From the parking lot, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Baldy. The day I was there, the mountain was beautifully snow-capped from the recent inclement weather.
