National Burrito Day falls on the first Thursday of April, so the date fluctuates. This year, it’s April 4. Did you know El Cholo is credited with the introduction of the burrito to the US in the 1930s? Since then, burritos have taken many forms, such as the mission style, dorado style, california, and chimichanga. Here is where to celebrate National Burrito Day.
Epic Tortillas at Sonoratown
Sonoratown is best known for its Burrito 2.0, which features juicy steak, chunky guacamole, spicy salsa chiltepin, and pinto beans wrapped around their award-winning flour tortilla. Don’t overlook the chivichanga (chimichanga), made with stewed shredded beef; the smoky anaheim chile makes this a memorable experience.

The Best Burrito in LA at La Azteca Tortilleria?
Long lines quickly form outside this Michelin’s Bib Gourmand recipient in Boyle Heights. The Chile Relleno Burrito is a large burrito with a healthy portion of carne asada, a green chile stuffed with white creamy cheese and fried. The flour tortillas don’t crack and bust open when biting into them. Add their chile arbol salsa to make it the perfect flavor experience. My review here.

Perfect Marriage of Meat and Salsa at Burritos La Palma
Burritos La Palma made Jonathan Gold’s list of his five favorite burritos. Don’t expect super-sized burritos here. Burritos La Palma features the slim style that is popular in Zacatecas. Don’t expect to find cheese, sour cream, or guacamole, as it’s the perfect marriage of spiced meat like beef birria, beans, and salsa wrapped in a handmade flour tortilla.

The Life-Changing Burrito at El Tepeyac
El Tepeyac is best known for its signature Hollenbeck burrito, which Jonathan Gold once described as “an old-line Mexican restaurant’s entire menu wrapped into a bedsheet-size tortilla.” It will feed two and maybe three and include chips and salsa. A visit to El Tepeyac belongs on your bucket list.

Longaniza Burrito at All Day Baby
Available on the Day Menu from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the ADB Breakfast Burrito 2.0 is made with smoked longaniza sausage, refried beans, fried eggs, jack cheese, and salsa roja. For the kids, they feature a bean, cheese, and lime rice burrito.

Angus Beef Carne Asada at Senoritas Prime
Senoritas Prime is about preparing the best possible food using angus beef carne asada served on handmade corn or imported flour tortillas. It’s priced at $19.25, but in all fairness, it’s large enough for two meals. While you may be drawn to their carne asado burrito, don’t overlook their surf and turf burrito, which adds spicy shrimp, rice, beans, and chipotle mayo.

Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito at Phanny’s
You know there’s something special when you see the line outside Phanny’s takeout window. Courtesy of Eater and Infatuation, their breakfast burrito is no longer a South Bay secret. Be sure to order the carne asada breakfast burrito with avocado. The Pastrami Breakfast Burrito is quite tasty as well. P.S. The coffee is excellent, too.

Artisan Chorizo at The Chori-Man
Humberto Raygoza is a fourth-generation chorizo maker who elevates the LA chorizo experience to an artisan level. He learned the craft of making chorizo the way his father and uncles prepared it in Zacatecas, Mexico. His chorizo creations reflect this, including Zacatecano Red Pork, Tolucan Green Pork, Argentinian Pork, and Maple Habanero Pork. The jalapeno relish side amps up the flavor.
