Editor’s Note: Ord and Broadway closed in 2022.
Modern Filipino cuisine is trending in LA. More dishes with adobo, ube, and silog are appearing on local menus. What I’m enjoying about this movement is the fact that chefs are taking dishes that they enjoyed growing up, and are using modern cooking techniques to prepare them. One of the latest restaurants to open is Ord and Broadway in Chinatown.
Co-Owner and Chef Getty Lustre (Redbird, Michael’s and Patina) heads the kitchen. Diners can watch the action through the large plate glass window as they enter the restaurant. Ord and Broadway is a fast-casual restaurant; orders are placed at the counter.
Shanghai Lumpia is one of their signature dishes. Their lumpia was filled with chicken and shrimp and topped with a delicious spicy red sauce. I learned that the topping was Chinese XO sauce, pickled red onions, and egg shavings. It was also served with a sweet chili dipping sauce.
I enjoyed the presentation of the Oxtail Adobo over Roasted Bone Marrow served. Sliced radishes, micro greens, and a tasty relish made with shallots and parsley gave it both nice color and contrast in textures. Sliced pandesal bread added some sweetness to this dish.
Tallarin Saltado is a traditional Peruvian dish that was served vegetarian. Drizzled aji sauce and micro greens topped the dish. While I enjoyed the dish, I would have liked a spicier aji sauce.
Baby back pork ribs made with fresh garlic, stir-fried Chinese broccoli and a fried egg nicely framed the rice bowl. The ribs were tender and they weren’t overpowered with garlic.

I love garlic fried rice, but I resisted the temptation to order Tapsilog. Another dish that caught my eye was the Thai Chicken Curry Rice Bowl. The ube funnel cake ice cream sandwich looks like a winner.
Some of these dishes are screaming to be paired with a cold beer. Unfortunately, Ord and Broadway lacks a wine and beer license. However, they have two in-house drinks that are tasty, a lychee-mint strawberry drink and one made with peach.
Parking in Chinatown is challenging. Fortunately, there are $4 and $5 public lots nearby. I was fortunate to find a parking space a block away on Broadway.
