If you enjoy eating chicken, one of the best ways to prepare it is with a rotisserie. When it is done right, the skin is crispy and the meat is tender and moist. Some restaurants such as Poulet du Jour use a middle eastern spice rub. Because the chicken is so tasty, they create a menu that features their delicious chicken.
Poulet du Jour is located on Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach. They’ve been around for a number of years and South Bay residents are well aware of their treasured restaurant. It is no longer a local secret as Poulet du Jour has been listed on Eater LA’s list titled Succulent Roast Chickens You Should Eat in Los Angeles.
Parking in Hermosa Beach can be difficult. Fortunately, the city of Hermosa Beach has a free parking lot directly behind the establishments that reside on this block. There is a narrow walkway between Poulet du Jour and the next business that allows customers to walk from the parking lot to the front of the restaurant without having to circle the block.
A popular item is their quarter chicken with two sides, two pita breads and garlic sauce combination. It is available as either white or dark meat. Their most popular side is the spicy hummus. The hummus is made fresh and combined with cayenne pepper to add some heat. The pita nicely pairs with the regular or the spicy hummus.
I think Poulet au Rie is their own creation. It is a green salad made with crisp romaine lettuce combined with long grain white rice, freshly made pita chips and their famous rotisserie chicken. It is tossed in a light dressing made with olive oil, lemon and garlic.
Poulet du Jour doesn’t skimp on the amount of falafel they include in their Falafel Pita Sandwich. Unlike some places that fill the bottom of the pita with lettuce, the sandwich is packed with quite a few falafel, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, and tossed in a creamy garlic dressing. If you like falafel, you will find this sandwich addictive – at least I did.
Due to the pandemic, they currently only have a to-go operation. Fortunately, they allow customers to wait inside until their order is prepared. Doordash, Postmates and Grubhub provide delivery service.
