The San Pedro Fish Market is California’s largest seafood restaurant and is home to the world-famous Shrimp Tray. They established themselves in Ports O’Call and have opened locations in Wilmington, Rolling Hills Estates and most recently in Harbor City. I attended the grand opening for their Habor City location named San Pedro Fish Grille.
The San Pedro Fish Market Grille is a new format based on their original location in San Pedro. It is set up as a fast-casual concept where individuals place their order at the counter. Diners may order seafood grilled or fried and be included in a salad, taco, burrito, or as one of their famous seafood trays.
They share a common parking lot and fortunately, parking is free. Their interior is modern and extremely clean and the restaurant is large enough to accommodate large groups. Being LA born and raised, I appreciate that they have covered al fresco dining available.
The menu is quite extensive and it is a blending of an American fish house and a Mexican Mariscos restaurant. Alaskan King Crab, Maine Lobster, Snow Crab and Shrimp highlight the shellfish items. They feature responsibly sourced fish such as swordfish, yellowtail, barramundi, Atlantic salmon and tilapia. After selecting the fish, diners can choose from a grilled plate, fish and chips, seafood salad, rice bowl, taco or burrito.
If you arrive as a group, you can take advantage of their famous fish or shrimp trays. These impressive seafood options are served on cafeteria-sized trays with a heaping amount of seafood, fajita vegetables, potatoes, and other options of your choosing. Because they have so many sides available, you can easily customize your meal based on your choosing. Even tortillas are available as add-ons.
I sampled items from three of their seafood trays. The exterior is nicely seasoned and the fish is prepared so that it remains moist inside. The fajitas are also nicely seasoned and I was tempted to ask for some flour tortillas so that I could make a couple of tacos. For me, the calamari was my favorite. They source the calamari local and it is tender and not chewy.
Even their vegetarian items are thoughtfully prepared and include fire roasted corn, vegetable fajitas, mixed green salad and grilled zuchinni.
Fish Tacos, burritos, ceviche and mojarra frita are also on the menu if you are desiring a mariscos experience. They even serve michiladas.
The kids menu features popcorn shrimp, salmon or tilapia, cheese quesadilla or grilled cheese. Each of these items includes a side like fries or garlic bread. If they are beyond that type of food, they have a classic tuna melt.
If you enjoy seafood, you owe it to yourself to try San Pedro Fish Grille. You can go solo, with a friend or in a group. The best thing is that you can tailor the meal and make it a fun experience.
