The Gringo Bandito hot sauce is at it again. Not willing to rest on their laurels, the makers of this popular hot sauce recently collaborated with OC’s popular Slidebar Rock-N-Roll Kitchen to produce the Cali Bandito Taco.
Walking into Slidebar, I heard the song “Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright. Hearing that tune and sipping on a Stone IPA quickly got me into the weekend mood.
The Slidebar advertises itself as a Rock ‘n’ Roll establishment. They are a venue that proudly features Orange County bands while also offering quality food and beverages. The Slidebar Rock-N-Roll Kitchen has been in business since 2006.
The Cali Bandito Taco is a Slidebar’s version of their popular California Burrito. Three handmade tortillas are filled with Gringo Bandito red marinated carne asada, french fries, cheddar cheese, sour cream and avocado crème. Housemade refried beans, chips and salsa are also included.
I had an opportunity to try both the carne asada version as well as the vegetarian Cali Bandito Taco. The carne asada is full of flavor and has mild heat due to the Cali Bandito hot sauce. I thought the portobello was dense and meaty in texture and that was delicious as well. Bottles of the Cali Bandito hot sauce were on the table so that you can amp it up if so desired.
Slidebar recommends pairing the Cali Bandito Taco with the Modern Times Fortunate Islands IPA. The Fortunate Islands IPA was extremely smooth and exhibited citrus notes. I thought the beer paired quite nicely with the tacos.
There will be two great opportunities to sample the Cali Bandito Taco. This Friday, June 9, from 2:00pm – 6:00pm, the Slidebar plays host to the AM 570’s Petros and Money show. Watch the antics in-person while enjoying a cold draft beer and a Cali Bandito Taco. In addition, the Slidebar will be serving this delicious taco at OC Weekly’s Summerfest on June 17.
