A Special Evening at Skirball: Taste of Israel

May 16, 2018 by Bryan

For one night only, the best of Israel’s culinary creators come together in Los Angeles for an incredible gourmet food and wine experience. The Taste of Israel is a one-time high-end event, black-tie optional evening that will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center on June 7th, 2018.

Growing up on the Westside, I was exposed to quite a bit of Mediterranean food and to a lesser extent, Jewish deli cuisine. Until I recently visited Jaffa, I had not been to a restaurant that designated itself as Israeli cuisine. Israeli wines recently garnered my attention when I attended the Kosher Food and Wine Experience.

Some of Israel’s best-known chefs will be flown in to support the event. They will be on-hand to introduce you to the heart and soul of Israeli food. Each chef will present a different aspect of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and will transport you on an amazing culinary journey.

Some of the superstar chefs that will be present include:

Eyal Shani, star of MasterChef Israel and owner of Miznon. In five short years, his pita-centric menus have opened popular restaurants in Paris, Vienna, Melbourne and most recently in New York City.

Shaul Ben Aderet is a star of Cuisine Culture, a 14-part series from WETA. Adret is also executive chef and owner of the Blue Rooster and two other prominent restaurants in Tel Aviv.

Meir Adoni is another Israeli TV star and executive chef of Blue Sky and Lumina in Tel Aviv and Jur in New York City. Adoni is one of the leading chefs shaping modern Israeli cuisine.

LA is represented by Jaffa’s executive chefs Anne Conness and Santos Navarro. Also from LA is Hebel and Co, a company that makes halvah, a sesame confection, that fans call an “addictive joy”.

Wine lovers will delight in experiencing the open wine bar and the offerings from Israel’s best vineyards. Some of the award-winning wineries that will be present include  Barkan, Psagot, Shiloh, and Tabor.

A 25-piece musical ensemble, Moments Band is known around the world for their elaborate shows and Las Vegas-style performances. They will make their LA debut in grand fashion with a performance that is planned to be jaw-dropping.

Tickets are $360 each and available online. Proceeds from the event will benefit LA Family, an organization that improves the quality of life of children with cancer. You can feel great because your ticket is tax deductible.

IMPORTANT: Parking is extremely limited and not guaranteed. Because of the limited parking available, event organizers recommend using a ride-share service like Uber or Lyft. Parking on site will be $100 per car.
