LA’s largest Mexican food festival returns for its 11th year to DTLA this weekend. Named La Feria de Los Moles, the name sounds much better in Spanish because the English translation is Mole Fair. The event takes place on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Grand Park in downtown LA.
If you’re familiar with mole, it is a thick sauce made with a variety of different ingredients such as chiles, tomatoes, raisins, peanuts, chocolate, chicken broth, cumin, and cloves. All of the ingredients are blended smooth and allowed to simmer. It comes in a variety of colors and flavors. Mole may be sweet and smokey, slightly fruity or taste like pumpkin seeds, garlic, and cilantro.
A variety of pastries and other foods designed to complement mole dishes will be available for purchase. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the free event, which takes place this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. Food will be available for purchase from a variety of different vendors.
VIP ticket holders will be able to skip the lines and participate in a guided tour throughout the event. VIP tickets are $60.
