Wednesday, Jan. 30 is National Croissant Day. After visiting France, I fell in love with croissants. They were both buttery and flakey and simply delicious. It was difficult for me to eat just one croissant. That experience inspired me to check out some of the best croissants LA has to offer.
This Wednesday, I hope you enjoy a delicious croissant.
Northeast LA
Proof Bakery
Many croissant fans consider Proof Bakery to make the very best croissants in LA. After visiting them, I’d definitely rank them among the very best that LA has to offer. The Ham and Gruyere Croissant is particularly satisfying.

The Village Bakery and Cafe
The Village Bakery packs fragrant almond paste between flaky layers of a buttery croissant. In size, this a behemoth among croissants. In quality, it stands up to the most lauded of croissants like nearby Proof Bakery.

République
République is the celebrated restaurant by Walter and Margarita Lorenzana-Manzke that took over the former Campanile building on La Brea. Unfortunately, I have not tried their croissants, but I had to show the one they just displayed on social media – ham and za’atar croissants by Chef Lorenzana-Manzke.

Amandine Patisserie Cafe
Amandine’s menu section dedicated to croissants is a particular highlight, with options for plain, chocolate, almond, and a decadent strawberry nutella. I’m definitely returning to enjoy the strawberry nutella again.

Croissants du Tokyo
Croissants Du Tokyo is located at the food hall inside Tokyo Central Market. They are known for quality croissants baked using a hybrid of traditional French and Japanese techniques. Their Butter Croissant can compete with the best in LA. They make delightful options like Matcha and Espresso. Coffee drinkers will love the Espresso Croissant. It had a delicious coffee flavor that wasn’t overpowering. Chopped pecans gave this a nice crunchy topping.

Krust Bakery
Krust Bakery is a small bakery located in a strip mall in south Redondo Beach. The owner arrives early and bakes everything fresh for the day. The almond croissant is excellent – flaky, buttery and with just enough almond filling.

Pinwheel Cafe and Bakery
The highlight here is their croissant filled with raspberry and cream cheese. The exterior is a dark brown and it is dusted with powdered sugar. Best of all, it is crispy on the outside. The raspberry and cream cheese inside is a welcome delight.
