Gaetano’s Restaurant
If you are looking for something different to do with the family, Gaetano’s has you covered. Gaetano’s Restaurant just added a Pizza Kit to their “To Go” line-up. The basic ($8.95) includes grated mozzarella and pizza sauce. Toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms are optional. Simple instructions are included with the kit or you can watch owner Vince Giuliano and his son Luca prepare one.
The pizza was easy to prepare because all of the ingredients were sliced or grated. The handmade pizza dough was chilled and ready to use. My wife spread the dough on our countertop, added the toppings, and used a pizza spatula to move everything to a baking sheet. At 500 degrees, the pizza cooks quickly, giving it a beautiful golden crust that’s super crispy on the outside but still chewy in the middle.
Gaetano’s Restaurants’ online menu is rather extensive and available online via Chownow. Starters, salads, entrees, fully baked pizzas, and desserts are available for pick-up. If you like wine, be sure to check their wine list; many bottles are 50% off. Finally from Monday through Thursday, they also offer a fresh Grocer Box.

Phorage
My mother is self quarantined because she in the age group of people who are at higher risk for severe illness. I occasionally bring her a simple lunch, and this week I delivered Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches from Phorage. During the pick-up from Phorage, I was among two other cars in their lot with our trunk lids were raised. A masked employee dropped the bag in my trunk and closed it. How convenient was that?

Spring Rolls with peanut dipping sauce Mary’s Fish Sauce Wings
Which is better, their Jidori chicken or the Berkshire pork banh mi sandwich? The consensus pick was the chicken and I think it is because it had a better marinade. What distinguished this from a typical Vietnamese banh mi was the use of sliced marinated cucumbers and I think this was a nice addition. The bread, however, was a standard french roll vs. a Vietnamese baguette.

Choriman
Co-owner Humberto Raygoza is a fourth-generation chorizo maker. Because he was dissatisfied with the chorizo found in LA’s supermarkets, he learned the trade from his father, a butcher in Zacatecas Mexico. After successfully supplying popular restaurants with his chorizo, he and a partner opened up Choriman in San Pedro.

Chicken Chorizo Quesadillas Choriman is open!
Choriman features four different Mexican chorizos and a Chipotle braised beef that can be included in a breakfast burrito, bean & cheese burrito, quesadilla, torta, or taco. Each item was delicious and both salsas included were welcome additions. The next time I visit, I will try their chile relleno burrito.
